S.M.M. Review

I am a huge supporter of breastfeeding!  No, I don't frown upon formula feeding, I just prefer breastmilk because it's natural, full of antibodies and of course FREE! However, with both of my current children I imagined that they would come out knowing exactly what to do and we would go on to having a beautiful nursing relationship.  Due to my first having severe reflux and then my second being hospitalized just after birth with a life-threatening illness and also having a tongue-tie that just wasn't the case.
In the beginning of each of their lives I nursed them (3 weeks and 2 weeks).  As you are aware the beginning is the hardest and having the right supplies to support you is essential!
The first of those I found were nursing pads.  There were good, bad and really bad ones out there and the disposable ones from Lansinoh were at the top of my list! They are soft on your breasts and nipples, which are often sore as you and your little one start your nursing relationship.  The pad also is designed to fully and naturally cover the breast without showing from the outside.  One issue I found with other brands was that they didn't stay in place or bunched up, but the Lansinoh pads did neither as each pad has two perfectly placed adhesive strips on the back to hold it in place. The most important feature of a good nursing pad is whether it catches the moisture and pulls it away from you breast and this one definitely does!  I have used these overnight and they have held a ton of leaking.
When my daughter had tongue-tie, it quickly led to a poor latch, which led to a huge amount of nipple damage (OUCH!). Luckily to help soften, soothe and heal my nipples I had Lansinoh lanolin by my side. I had started out trying to use a different type of nipple cream and it didn't help one bit, but once I switched to lanolin it was totally different.  It only took a small bit that I warmed up between my finger and thumb and placed on my nipple to help with healing and soothing.  Also, there wasn't any need to worry because lanolin is 100% safe for nursing babies so I could just apply as needed and not rinse off before the next nursing session.
Unfortunately as I mentioned above, having a nursing relationship just wasn't in the cards for me and my babies, but since I consider breastmilk very important, I made the decision to exclusively pump for them. While I knew I would need breastmilk storage supplies for when I returned to work after month 3, I needed to use them much earlier.  This where the Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags entered the picture.  The storage bags were really wonderful because they were easy to fill, laid flat to save space in the freezer and sealed with ease.  Also, each bag has a easy to read measurement scale on the outside to help know exactly how many ounces you are putting in each bag. As we all know, breastmilk is like liquid gold and the last thing you want is to let it spoil, so what's great is that the bags feature a space to record the date & time filled, volume (amount of ounces), and the name of the child (a great thing for daycare!).
Whether you choose to nurse, exclusively pump, or a combination of both, Lansinoh is there with supplies that support your needs and are your perfect support system!

  2. My favorite product are the Soothies Gel Pads because the only thing worse than sore nipples is having sore nipples with a 10 pound baby attached. I also love that they're vegan!
