Spark of Amber Teething Necklace Review and #Giveaway: Day 4: Oh Baby Baby! Registry Event!

I am expecting my 3rd child any day now and in honor of this upcoming birth, I have teamed up with Buddy Doo's Adventure-Roos & Little Angel on a Mission to feature some of our absolute must-have baby/mama items!

Day Four Features:

Spark of Amber

Teething is something that every baby will experience and for some it can be like any other day and they will hardly notice, but for many it will be painful, irritating and can throw off their mood for several days/weeks/months. Personally, I have been pretty lucky, as my kids have received teeth 4-6 at a time, but only seemed to be affected for a day or so each time. Many of my mom friends have not been so lucky and find that the "conventional" teething gel just doesn't make a dent in helping their little ones cope. Although, we have never tried them, I have heard wonderful success in amber teething necklaces in helping to alleviate the pain. Below is a review by my blogger friend at Buddy Doo's Adventure-Roo's and the success story in helping her little guy fight teething pain!

Poor Buddy Doo has had a rough time with his teething.  At around six months of age, he had five teeth come in within a couple of days, and then again at eight months he had another five come in within a week!  After a little break, he's teething again and this time its ALL molars and his canines....at the same time.  You won't understand the intensity of that statement until your child even teeths just two molars at once.  I've heard horror stories about the fussiness and pain associated with these specific teeth, so I was quite surprised to see he's far less fussy or pawing at his mouth this go around.  What's different this time? Spark of Amber....and I think its making a world of difference!

When something like this becomes popular, you better believe somewhere out there people are making fakes.  And with the type of product and mysteriousness surrounding Baltic amber, its really hard to tell if you were shorted without destroying the necklace in the process.  Buddy Doo is 14 months old today, and I have waited this long for that exact reason.  We were skeptical, inquisitive but doubtful....now, we're believers!  What makes Spark of Amber's Baltic Amber so special?  Well for starters, they are all guaranteed real (you have Buddy Doo's word on that!) and the authenticity is tested in a lab before you receive it in the beautiful jewelry you see.  They also source their amber (directly from Lithuania!) from several small suppliers and work with women and mothers instead of larger companies with unethical practices.  Buying from Julie at Spark of Amber is like helping a small business/mom help other small businesses/moms, and that's something we can all appreciate! :)

We received the Campfire (raw) and its absolutely beautiful in person.  The name is inspired by its delightful, rustic, and peaceful appearance; the warm colors easily reminds you of the relaxation of a peaceful campfire.  Its completely made of raw rounded beads of Baltic Amber for the maximum amount of Succinic Acid.  Each bead is carefully handcrafted on heavy thread with a double knot between each bead for safety (this ensures that if it DOES break, only one bead comes off).  For added security, the closure is a screw clasp.  Due to the natural variations in Baltic Amber, color variations may vary.  Personally, I think this adds to its uniqueness and beauty :)

Okay, so we know why we want to make our purchase at Spark of Amber, but how does it even work anyway?  I'll leave this one to the lovely owner, Julie:
“The natural heat of the body releases the Succinic Acid (the key ingredient in the exterior of the Amber), which works for pain relief and anti-inflammation, immunity, and more! The healing oils (Succinic Acid) of the Baltic Amber are said to relieve teething pain, tame baby’s irritability, and relieve inflammation in the throat, ear, and stomach. Authentic Baltic Amber is also used as an anti-toxic and anti-bacterial agent, for headaches, for skin irritations, for bronchial conditions, and for throat and thyroid conditions (along with many other uses).”
The sooner you start letting your baby wear one, the more effective it is as well!  It works best if you start wearing it a month or two before the typical teething stage (six months) but works wonders at any age and stage of teething.  Buddy Doo has cut five of the hardest teeth he'll ever cut, and I'm so thankful we had this for him to wear just weeks before.  Before, he was waking up 5-7 times a night, skipping all naps, irritable over half the day, and never without a teether (and I do mean never.  Bath times, meal times, always had a teether!) when teething.  Now, he's continuing sleeping through the night, keeps his naps, and is as happy as ever.  He's still gnawing on everything he can get his hands on, but he's not a fuss bucket if I take it away to wash it, etc.

Mr. McHappy Pants after his nap.  You would never guess he's cutting all four upper molars and top and bottom canines!

By the way, Baltic amber teething necklaces are not for actually going in the mouth!!  They are short enough that they shouldn't be able to put it in their mouths when worn anyway (between 11.5"-12.5" long), but long enough that they don't choke themselves.  It should be worn underneath shirts and bibs so the skin can readily absorb the Succinic acid, too.  While many do continue to let their toddlers wear them at night or during naps, its not recommended (and also should be taken off during baths!).

Yeah, yeah, he doesn't match at all.  All of the wool longies I've made him were lanolizing and the babylegs I made were in the wash.  But look at how calm and content he looks rocking his Spark of Amber teething necklace reading his Spanish Very Hungry Caterpillar :)

It seems like everywhere I turn, parents are becoming a little more 'crunchy' and honestly...I think that's a good thing :)  You're a good parent no matter which route you take with your parenting choices and lifestyle, but it does put a smile on my face when I see more natural methods being used lately.  Baltic Amber Teething Necklaces have soared in popularity, and rightfully so.  I've witnessed its magical powers over  the last month and will certainly continue.  I believe Spark of Amber is the store to get your raw, authentic Baltic amber and you can trust you're getting the real deal.  At baby showers you get enough products and gifts to go the first couple or so months without really needing to get anything extra, but what about after?  Trust me, they'll be much more appreciative over that strange teething necklace they didn't know what to do with around the six month mark, than they were over a cute newborn onesie that they only got a week or so use out of.  Saving your sanity really is the best gift after all.
