Hey, Duck!: Children's Book Review & Giveaway

In our house, we can't get enough of children's books.  My son and daughter have many favorites and I always love when we add a new one to our collection.  I was thrilled when I was offered the oppotunity to review "Hey, Duck!" written and illustrated by Carin Bramsen.

Information provided by Random House about this book and Carin:
About the Book:
An adorable little duckling is trying to befriend another "duck." However, he is oblivious to the fact that his potential pal is, in fact, a cat. Though resistant and stubborn at first, the cat soon realizes labels don't matter in the least—and before you know it, meowing and quacking are one and the same.
About the author/illustrator:
Carin Bramsen received her BA in art history from Barnard College and has studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she illustrates, paints, and performs the occasional high-kick for the squirrels outside her window.

My review:
Immediately upon opening the package, I was impressed with the bright and very cute cover image!  I couldn't help but to start flipping through the pages and the illustrations were just so well-executed.  To me, it is important with children's books that the illustrations tell just as much, if not more of the story than the actual words. In this book, the illustrations are not only very colorful and eye-catching, but Carin has mastered the ability to capture the emotion of each scene on every page.  I have included some pictures of our favorite images from the book (they are a little bit dark from my camera phone, but I think you can really see how wonderfully illustrated this story is).
After doing my initial paging through the book, I decided I would wait to read the story until bedtime. I just love sharing the experience and thrill of reading a new book while simultaneously introducing it to our 3 year old son.
As soon as we started the book, you could tell he really loved it!  He was laughing at the silly things the cat and duck were doing and "saying", along with enjoying the story, which includes humor that even he can understand!  This book has quickly become a bedtime favorite and we have read it a countless number of times in the last few weeks!
This book is definitely the perfect gift for any child (1+).  It has a wonderful story that teaches a beautiful lesson about embracing differences in others, all through the use of descriptive language and vivid images.  This is truly the way that all children's books should be written and illustrated.
