Over the last 3 years, I have found that there is a lot of children's music out there. I have also learned that a good bit of it is not easy on the ears and too repetitive for any grown adult to listen to daily without going slightly insane and throwing the CD out of the car! Thankfully, I was recently provided opportunities to review various children's music albums and decided I would turn this into a review and giveaway event for all of you!
My debut review for this event is for Jambo's Hootenanny.
One part Mississippi Delta, one part New Orleans street corner, and one part Chicago juke joint, Jambo is known for its funky, feel-good grooves, outstanding musicianship, and dynamic, kid-friendly, positive songs.
Co-produced by Jambo's creator (and former Blues Head front man) Steve Pierson and Grammy nominee Tor Hyams, Hootenanny features fourteen Steve Pierson originals. Notes Steve, "One of my primary goals has been to give kids, at a very early age, a taste of the 'good stuff' -- the kind of organic, rootsy music that I love. I wrote two kinds of songs for Hootenanny: full blown band tracks and what I call 'back porch' tracks. I really wanted to mix up styles and give listeners a sampling of different instruments and different kinds of songs."Our experience:
Jambo's Hootenanny is really a great mix of bluegrass and easy rock. The songs have a great message and the music/vocals are top-notch! My kids (3 and 1) both really loved the music and happily danced and listened along while it played. Our favorite track was "Brand New Day" as the beat was really good and we really loved the soft soulful voice.
As I have been reviewing music, I have found that if I find that a CD has repeated itself without me noticing, then it is a keeper! While it is important to me that music be interactive, I also value that it is the perfect background to our lives and not an annoyance. It was fun, interactive, yet also perfect to put on while playing, cleaning, cooking, driving, etc.
