D.R.T. 2015 - Day #9: Do You Make Your Bed Daily? #bedmaking #2015 #randomthoughts

Today, I made our bed for the first time this year. I know it's only January 9th, but that's a pretty big deal.  Considering I think I only made our bed a total of a handful of times in 2014. Upon doing so, I wondered if the reason I don't make my bed as an adult is because as a child it wasn't something required of me.

*Disclosure: These are my random thoughts and the information I find on the internet regarding my thoughts. I am not and never claim to be an expert on these thoughts. This post may contain affiliate links which help us run this blog. Thanks for reading!
I was raised in a house where it just wasn't an essential part of getting up in the morning. There were much more essential things I needed to do when starting my day and personally I am NOT and have never ever been (my mother can attest to this) a morning person. So, I ALWAYS hit snooze and actually get out of bed with very little time to spare before I need to get out the door. What that means is that the essentials get done (i.e. showering/brushing teeth) and the non-essentials (i.e. making the bed) are skipped most days. Bed-making is reserved for special occasions like new guests who may want a house tour or my parents staying over watching the kids for us. Or for blog photos/videos (see above). Certainly not for every day or even most days.
However, I do admit that when I make my bed it makes me feel a little better in the morning. Maybe it's little like temporarily closing the sleeping chapter of your life until you pick it back up the next night. Or maybe it's the cleanliness and organization that we all strive to achieve in our lives is a little closer to actual achievement when we make our beds. I'm not really sure, but I know that it gives me a little bit of a sense of accomplishment when I'm done.
What does this mean for our family? Probably nothing at the moment. I believe my husband was raised in a home where he was expected to make his bed every morning, but we haven't carried this over to our children. Again, we are in the mindset that the essentials of getting themselves dressed, bathed, teeth brushed, etc. are a higher priority than making their beds. Maybe this is is something that is a higher priority to other parents and maybe we should be instilling this into their daily morning routine to give them that little bit extra sense of accomplishment, but for now we don't. In the future, it's a definite possibility.

So, humor me and share what your thoughts are on making your bed? Do you do it every day? What type of rule did you have growing up? Do you teach this to your children?
